Having just been inspired during one of our lectures held at a RYA coach development conference, we came up with an idea to give something back to the sport in a different way than our normal coaching style. We were encouraged after a few healthy pints of beer, and came up with following challenge which will not only test our skill level to the maximum it will also push us physically and mentally to our limit.

We have decided to sail in one of the most demanding yet rewarding singlehanded boats ever built, the laser one. The Laser one is made and sold in Northamptonshire and is also the Mens and Womens lightweight singlehanded class for the 2012 Olympic games which will be sailed at Weymouth.

Our challenge will be to sail the two Lasers across the North Sea from the East Coast of England to Belgium, non-stop covering nearly 100 miles as the crow flies, which will take us over 15 hours. As far as we are aware no one has sailed a single handed dinghy across the North Sea, while raising money for charities.
